Launching Spiritual Multipliers among Pastors in Haiti

After completing my second year in the ThM at Dallas Seminary, the time had come to do my internship. At that time Matthew 28:19 became a real concern to me, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.” How could I make disciples when I was not sure that I possessed the tools for being a good disciple-maker? How could I be a good disciple when for the past 20 years I was not under a mentor?

Based on these questions I knew I wanted to do my internship in discipleship. I went to see my adviser, Dr. George Hillman, and I explained to him what I wanted to do. With a contagious smile he answered, “I have someone for you.” Dr. Hillman referred me to Dr. Kenneth Horton. We met together and I explained what I wanted to do and why I wanted to learn about discipleship. I told him, “I want to answer my calling of making disciples and I want to be sure that I have the tools to do that.” He explained the commitment required to be a multiplier and previewed the curriculum developed by Ministry Catalysts called Launching Multipliers!
Dr. Horton challenged me to pray with my wife, consider the challenge involved and let him know if I was still interested. God made it clear that this was something I should pursue.

Going through this eighteen session process with Dr. Horton was a life-transforming experience. I gained a clearer understanding of who I am in Christ. I became a better Christian, a better husband to my wife, a better father to my sons, and a better disciple-maker. This experience helped me to be more disciplined in my relationship with the Lord. Now I keep a prayer journal and a reading log of my Bible study, my memorization verses and other readings.

In the summer of 2014 we had a seminar with 40 Haitian pastors on spiritual multiplication. Shortly after that they kept asking when we would have the next training session. Since returning full-time to Haiti in 2015, we have taught 300 pastors how to be spiritual multipliers using this resource (which we have translated into Haitian Creole). We now use what I learned from Dr. Horton in my role as Academic Dean at STEP, an evangelical seminary in my country. In fact, Launching Multipliers! is part of our philosophy of ministry course and is a wonderful tool for those who want to respond to the Lord’s command to “go and make disciples of all nations.”
